JOIN US FOR WORSHIP

Join us for worship is one of the invitations that our church extends to you, and all people.

But there are probably some folk who really wonder what worship is. Simply put it is expressing to God your faith and love and belief and praise. When you do it alone at home, in the car, or sitting by the dock of the bay it is “personal worship,” when you do it in a group at church it’s called “corporate worship.”

A great Anglican preacher named Dr. William Temple expressed what worship is all about in the following wonderful quote (I found it in a book called A Treasury of Sermon Illustrations, Abingdon Press, 1950):

“To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God,

to feed the mind with the truth of God,

to purge the imagination by the beauty of God,

to open the heart to the love of God,

to devote the will to the purpose of God.”

That’s what being in church is all about.

In First Baptist Church of Matawan we sing praise songs, peppy gospel hymns, and majestic traditional hymns. We listen to special musical presentations and pray aloud together. We often read a portion of the Bible together, and we listen to the preacher explain what the Bible says. We shake hands and laugh out loud, and through all of these actions we experience the things that Dr. Temple mentioned in the quote above.

If those spiritual experiences appeal to your mind, heart, soul, and spirit, we invite you to Join Us For Worship! We’d love to have you with us.

P.S. We’re open every Sunday, at 10:30 am.

I’m Dr. Lewis Kisenwether, the pastor. God bless you and please Join Us for worship.

Taking a page from a late night t.v. star some have created a Top Ten Reasons List for why people don’t go to church.

Here is one such list compiled from two different sources...

TOP TEN REASON PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO CHURCH

  • They can sleep in bed better than in a pew.

  • They can have a religious experience in the aisle at Home Depot.

  • Organ music makes them want to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

  • They went to church as a child and got antsy then.

  • They gave to The Salvation Army at the mall.

  • They can only remember 3 commandments.

  • Nothin’ could be finer than breakfast in the diner.

  • Surf’s up, dude!

  • The church is full of hypocrites.

  • They don’t know how good it is to be in a relationship with God.
